English as a Lingua Franca - Communicate effectively!

This class is geared towards professionals who encounter and use English regularly in their professional life. They may travel often and use English to communicate in countries where English is not the first language spoken.

They may use English in Germany with other non-native speakers.

The goal of this class is to communicate effectively in English and to better understand what that means.

The participant will recognize which mistakes are important and worth correcting and which to ignore.

The participant can undertand how culture and society plays a role in communication.

Most importantly, the participant can answer the question: Must English be grammatically perfect to be correct?

Together we will demystify cross-cultural communication via English as a Lingua Franca.

Inhalte:

- interpreting cultural cues
- recognizing social conventions
- using English as a global language
- focusing more meaning than linguistic conventions

Participants should have reached the level B1 in English.

Material will be provided in class.
